Explanation of Water Valve Replacements

9/24/2020

We appreciate the patience of the citizens of Archie as we are attempting to upgrade the water system to improve service, quality, and reliability within our water and infrastructure.  Yesterday, during the shutdown, we inserted two new valve for shutdown purposes and took the dilapidated 4" line main out of service along "A" higway in from of the school.  When we brought the town back online, Texas and Ohio Streets did not come back into service.  We discovered that the valves at Chestnut & Texas and Chestnut & Ohio were broken in the closed position, therefore not allowing water to flow.

The fire department graciously loaned us enough fire hose to jumper water to these two streets so that the residents would have water.

The permanent fix is to take the broken valves out system and replace them with new working valves so the loop in thate area of town can be re-established.  This will unfortunately require an emergency shutdown to the town again, which will begin at 3:30 pm today.

Valves are needed so that when we have leaks, we can isolate it to a street instead of the entire town.  We have many valves in town that do not work, therefore creating a headache for all residents. By replacing the valves, and enduring the inconvenience now, we will eventually be at a point, where a leak will only affect a few residents instead of all the residents.

We apologize for the inconvenience, but we ask for your patience as we attemp to make the water system more reliable and less bothersome.
